The Fish of Stavoren was designed by Mark Dion from the United States.

Stavoren has traditionally been linked to shipping and fishing. The current IJsselmeer used to be the Zuiderzee. Stavoren was a prominent port and fishing town at that time. The world seas were sailed from Stavoren and trade was conducted. The fish of Stavoren symbolizes this important history and heritage.

Once every two years, fishing days are organized in Stavoren in July. For two days the city will be entirely devoted to the rich fishing history. Music, traditional ships, demonstrations, and market stalls.

The fish of Stavoren will form an impressive part of the decor from 2018 onwards. Look at the Visserijdagen-Stavoren website for information about the next edition of this wonderful event.
