Heart of the National Park 'De Alde Feanen'

Earnewald is located in a worldwide unique landscape called De Alde Feanen. The diversity of the scenery is huge: lakes, ditches, canals, cane, grass-land, forest. The area offers a magnificent flora and fauna. There grow 450 species of plants and brood over hundreds of birds. Good news: the biggest part of the area is accessible by sail- or motor boat, canoe or sloop. If you don’t have a boat, do an excursion by a tourist vessel, bike or via the unique walking paths.

Museum of 'Skûtsje' boat
The historical shipyard 'De Stripe' is a 'skûtsje' museum. The museum contains a mind-blowing extensive collection of historical occupational ships. A traditional boat called a ‘skûtsje’, a sloop, and a ‘wyldsjitter’. Besides these ships, there are photos and videos in which an old-fashioned ‘skipper-family’ becomes alive. The historical shipyard organizes activities as well. For example there are produced swords and stakes, ropes and welding of iron.

Water sports Day
The yearly organized Water Sports Day guarantees a day full of activities within and around the harbour. Traditional Frisian ‘klompkesilen’ at the ferry-boat, a demonstration of sample boats and Frisian shanty-choirs.

Tips
• Take the 'Wetterbus'. This is a means of transportation. The WetterBus is a connection between Leeuwarden and Drachten via Earnewald. Boarding areas are at Drachten, Earnewald, Grou, and the Veenhoop/Hooidammen.
• Go to 'Eibertshiem' to see stork in nature. Especially in the evenings a lot of storks can be spotted.
